The Brunswick News: Safe Harbor spreads awareness for National Safe Place Week

The bright-yellow signs reading “Safe Place” in black letters are scattered throughout the community.

These signs designate businesses and organizations as “Safe Place” locations, where there are trained individuals who can help youth in crisis situations get in touch with the Safe Harbor Children’s Center in Brunswick.

“You’ll see the signs all over Brunswick,” said Sharron Atkinson, a member of the Safe Place team at Safe Harbor, during a presentation to sixth-graders at Glynn Middle School on Thursday. “They’re at the library, the fire stations, all the McDonalds, Dominoes.”

The Brunswick and Glynn County police departments, all schools and school buses and many churches also serve as Safe Place sites, she said.
